Course Description

 

WHAT: An online mixed media portrait workshop focused on painting women’s eyes and faces.

WHEN: Class runs for four weeks online, with spaces strictly limited to allow me to give you my full support.

DAILY WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS: Each day of class you’ll receive a watercolor project that can be created in under 10 minutes. These can be used as a springboard for your own creative practice, or just bring more light and joy to your day.

LAYERED MIXED MEDIA PAINTINGS: Each week you’ll learn my latest techniques and practices for painting backgrounds and layered mixed media portraits in under 30 minutes.

Q&A: There will be two Q&A sessions during class – you’ll be able to submit your questions in advance and I’ll answer them in-depth in a video, which will be pre-recorded.

OFFICE HOURS & COMMUNITY ART GALLERY: You’ll have direct access to me in our private Facebook group where you can connect with other artists. This offers an encouraging, safe, supportive and friendly place to share your in-progress or finished artwork. Ask for feedback or just share and see what others are working on.

VIDEOS & PRIVATE ONLINE CLASSROOM: The videos are shot in high-def with closed-captioning. The lessons are released daily at 6am ET time from Monday to Friday, but you don’t need to be online at 6am, you can access each lesson whenever it works for you to accomodate your own schedule.

LIFETIME ACCESS: This course is 100% online and you’ll have lifetime access, so you can access all of the content at any time, day or night.

This course is designed to help you develop a reliable, step-by-step painting practice so you always have time and space to paint – with daily watercolor paintings and weekly layered mixed media portraits you can create in 30 minutes or less.

Our focus will be on: developing your style, confidence, motivation and trust in the process, with a whole lot of support and encouragement.

You don’t need any painting experience or expensive art supplies to take this class – all you really need are a few paints and brushes, and an openness to play.

The lessons are designed to make creating fun, easy and completely un-intimidating.

Weeks At A Glance

 

Week 1 – Daily watercolor paintings and portraits, preparing our canvas, laying the backgrounds for our portrait, painting a layered mixed media portrait in under 30 minutes.

Week 2 – Q&A session, daily watercolor paintings and portraits, beginning to layer new mixed media, continue learning layering techniques, painting new portraits in under 30 minutes.

Week 3 – Daily watercolor paintings and portraits, continue with mixed media layering for painting women’s eyes and faces, continue to paint new portraits in under 30 minutes.

Week 4 – Q&A session, daily watercolor paintings and portraits, more mixed media techniques to finalize our women’s faces and portraits.

About Juliette 

I’m Juliette Crane, the founder of The School of Happy Painting Membership, a suite of online courses in fearless art and mess making that encourage thousands around the world to get creative and live their dreams.

With over 15 years experience as a working artist, I want to share what I’ve learned and what’s worked for me, in the hope that it’ll help you be more productive and develop your own style faster.

Art was the thing I loved to do growing up and in high school. But when I graduated college, I felt like my creativity didn’t matter.

I stopped painting for more than ten years. I went to work as an editorial assistant at a newspaper, occasionally writing a music review or gallery feature.

It took SO many different jobs as a photographer, gallery assistant, floral designer and more before I finally realized the only thing I could put my heart into was being a full-time artist.

My hope is that in sharing my creative process, you feel more connected and supported as you create, and find more beauty and happiness in your every day.

Have More Time For Your Art

By the end of class you’ll know my template for painting female faces and portraits, so you can use that as a springboard in your own work.

What Materials Will I Need? 

Once you’ve registered you’ll get a full supply list with links to brands and details. We’re using simple supplies in this course so you can get more materials as you go or easily include what you already have and use in your creative practice:

*Titanium White Acrylic Paint, Medium or

*Heavy-Body High Flow Acrylics – 3 colors (Quinocrindone nickel Azo Gold, Teal, Green Gold)

*Acrylic Ink – 1 color (Yellow Orange Azo) Water-soluble

*Paint Pen – 2 colors (Florescent Pink, White)

*Water-soluble Pencil (Black)

*Canvas (11″ x 14″)

*Sketchbook (9″ x 12″)

*Watercolors (a simple Crayola set is fine)

*Brushes (4 main brushes – round 0, round 3, 2 flat brushes)

Optional: oil paintsticks (titanium white and turquoise, additional brushes (wide, utility brushes), additional colors for painting backgrounds (suggested: cadmium yellow acrylic ink, florescent pink high flow acrylic paint).

When is this course?

This is a live class that runs for four weeks. There are two Q&A sessions during the course, and lifetime access to all of the course content and community.

 

Do I need to attend at a certain time? 

You can do it all at your own schedule - everything is prerecorded and accessible anytime. You can submit your questions for the Q&A in advance and I'll answer them in-depth in a video during class.

 

How do I share my artwork? Will there be critiques?

You’ll have direct access to Juliette in our optional private Facebook group where you can connect with other artists. Can I join anytime?

Enrollment for The Portrait Painting Masterclass opens twice a year.

 

What do I need to participate?

You'll need a good wifi connection to access the information and videos, in addition to any art supplies you're inspired to work with, you'll find a full list of Juliette's favorite supplies and brands inside the classroom, and we're happy to answer any questions about materials that arise. Videos are not downloadable.

 

What if I need tech support?

I've never taken an online course before, how does it work?

This is an online painting class. so everything is 100% online. Once you register, you will receive the login and password needed to access the class’s private website. The class website consists of a private classroom (where lessons are posted in the form of text, videos and photos), and a private Facebook Group where students share their work, offer support and encouragement, and I give feedback and answer questions.
